Eero is a modern sans serif inspired by mid-century modern design. Specifically Danish teak and atomic modern furniture. It's a combination of slim clean lines with very slight organic miters that are seen at larger point sizes. It's a verstile font able to bridge both body copy as well as title copy.

It was named after the mid-century modern designer Eero Saarinen who is best known for his timeless mid-century modern furniture pieces.

Otle Aicher (MAy 13, 1922 - September 1, 1991), Also known as Otto Aicher, was one of the leading German graphic designers of the 20th century. He created the Rotis font family in 1988. Naming it after the domicile of Rotis in the city of Leutkirch Im Allgau, where Aicher lived and kept his studio which is still used today by Bulthaup.

Aicher's extensive practical and theoretical work represents an expanded and refined structural functionalism, and demonstrates an holistic and rational approach to visual communication on the basis of its social relevance.

Talented designer of the well-known Formata typeface, Bernd Mollenstadt was born on February 22, 1943 in Germany. He has lived in Westfalia, Berlin and Munich, Germany, and now permanently resides in Munich. From his earliest years he was interested in typography. First Studying as a typesetter (1961 - 64) and then a student of graphic design (1964-67).

Instead of linear severity common to many sans serifs, Formata offers curved strokes and interesting details that are subtle in smaller sizes but distinguishable in larger sizes, thus, appropriate for both text and display.

One of the most difficult aspects to a mailer is to get people to open or interact with them. To solve this problem for Pantone I was inspired by the ancient chinese puzzle Tangrams. Tangrams is an intellectual moving piece puzzle, consisting of 7 geometric shapes.

I designed 7 unique puzzles, with the solutions on the back, that would not only challenge the designer but keep them coming back to be challenged again later. Being a hands on piece this could become the center piece of a coffee table or waiting room. This would increase viewership and get the Pantone name into other markets.

The packaging was designed at the same dimensions as a Pantone chip. The chip is widely recognized in the design community and aesthetically fits in most studios. Being a Pantone chip it allows for endless possibilities of color from the pantone families.

This would allow for the ability of multiple mailers to be sent throughout the year with limited edition copies being sent to select designers. Last I coined the the tagline term "color solved" to connect the mailer to the pantone color system.

ELTOPO MOVIE POSTER

Designed a movie poster for the 1970 cult classic ElTopo, by Alejandro Jodorowsky. ElTopo must confront four warrior Masters on a trans-formative desert journey he begins with his 6 year old son. El Topo claims to be God, while dressed as a gunfighter in black, riding a horse through a spiritual, mystical landscape.

A modern organic drink inspired from the late 18th and early 19th century. To differentiate Dr. Anubis from the flooded market of organic fruit drinks I re-created the look and feel of an aged elixir with the ingredients of a modern organic drink. The elixirs of the past were generally used to cure one's illness. A modern day illness in this case could be hydration, energy, relaxation, love, depression, constipation or sleep apnea to name just a few. This allows the opportunity to move into other organic markets, such as organic alcohols, teas or medicinal products.

To keep with the tradition of the time I illustrated the label including Dr. Anubis and his sidekick dog Bok Bok. I then hand stained the label in coffee and dipped the cork in bees wax. For the packaging, I found a wood box and hand-carved the Dr. Anubis logo and floral designs and then gave it an "aged" look. The inside was packed with straw. For the accompanying poster I coffee stained it after print to recreate an authentic aged look.

To adress KPW's problem of differentiating themselves from other architectural brochures on tables during the architectual conferences that they attended. I designed some abstract forms that were the basis of some of the structural buildings they had worked on.

To further the structural idea I used a rusted metal background texture and color palette to represent the raw metal materials that KPW frequently use. This reinstated the structural aspect of the business as well as created a synergy between color palette, images and logo.

A bookcover design for the book Hindsights written by Guy Kawasaki. The book is a compilation of interviews of a broad cross section of people from millionaires to drug addicts about their hindsights in life. To create the cover I used the definition of Hindsight as my inpsiration. Hindsight, (noun) is a recognition of the realities of a situation or decision after its occurrence.

The cover depicts an eye with a retina of a man walking on an arrow forward. The eye is representing the "sacred third eye" of knowledge. The arrow pointing forward is to represent that the knowledge learned from the past will help in better decision making in the future.

SF DESIGN POSTER

A poster for the Handmade Design and Imaging: An Exploration of Handmade Design and Photo Imaging show in San Francisco. Both photo manipulation and illustration were pertinent in creating a poster that was for handmade design and photo imaging. My inspiration was handmade collages.

The hand represents the "handmade" aspect of the poster, it's cut and pouring out illustration blood. The paper background represents the ideas and concepts that are conceived in the early stages of development. 18" x 24"
